I couldn't sleep on my side for a good month or so!!!! Doing so would bother the incisions. I ended up on my back most nights.

Most of us weren't able to sleep flat on our backs. Some slept in recliners...I slept with pillows to keep me partially sitting up for about a week post-op.

I couldn't sleep on my side where my port is. I slept mostly on my back... Even being 18 days post opt it still hurts a little to sleep on my stomach.

I could sleep on my side and stomach 2nd night post op. totally comfortable once I got there, but a little painful getting there since your ab muscles are so sore. I also slept on my stomach on top of a soft ice pack with a towel on top and felt really comfortable to me. I'm a week and a half post op and still do that on days when my incisions are sore.

I was most comfortable on my back, propped up with pillows.

This is my first night post op ' date=' have any of you slept on your back? Or just sitting up?[/quote']

I am 5 days post op. have slept on my side since first night. Have 2 pillows . Put one under your head as usual. Lie on your side push the pillow long way against your stomach/abdomen and roll against it. You can bend your knee and put it on top of the pillow - I find that more comfortable. Make sure the pillow is up snug against your abdomen. The first 3 nights I put an ice bag there too as well as taking a pain pill before going to bed. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
