I'm new to this forum as you can tell by my post count. I have a question. I had lapbanding with plication on May 10th and with my preop diet forward, I've lost 32 lbs. I have not had a fill and have had 2 doctors appts. My last visit I had lost 3.5 lbs in 5 weeks and my doctor said that as long as I was losing he wouldnt do a fill. Problem is, I feel I'm having to work to lose the weight and not sure whether I'm hungrier than I should be or not. I guess I need reassurance that this is not unusual to not receive a fill.

Are you truly hungry or is it head hunger/cravings? It can take months or years to be able to discern the difference for most of us? Carolina Girl has had her lapband/plication for over a year and still no fill. It does happen.

I was banded on May 1st and I lost 36 pounds so far and I have not had a fill yet. I work out everyday for about 40 min and my calories intake is around 700 to 800 a day. The weekends I may reach 1200. But I don't look at my not getting a fill as a negative I look at it as a positive because I know I am making the right food choices and my band is working with me. Also head hunger is a pain but I do have some advice for you. This is how I determined if my hunger is head or physical hunger. When I get the need that I need to eat something I will drink some Water if I am still hungry after 30 minutes then I was grab a snack. if its around my dinner time then I will eat dinner. I will see my Dr again next month. he may give me a fill or he may not. Until then I will continue what I've been doing and enjoy my healthier lifestyle. Good luck to you.

That is a great way to distinguish head hunger from physical hunger.

In the future, do you mind if I steal your advice for others? :)

I too have not had any fills. I've been banded since January 14th and have lost 72 lbs. I consume around 1,000 calories a day, make good food choices, and have enough restriction to feel satiated most of the time.

I also do the Water trick. Glad to see I'm not the only one. I drink cold Water and it often helps me to distinguish between the head hunger and real hunger. I did it again this evening. A couple of hours ago I was thinking how much I wanted some sugar free pudding and I could have eaten it and still stayed within my calorie count but I wasn't sure how much I wanted it or needed it and here it is 11:30, and I'm no longer craving anything.

I agree completely with LadyDiva...not having fills is not a bad thing if you are not starving and/or overeating.

Cool. I'll give this a try. I would be satisfied to not ever receive a fill. But years of yoyo dieting, I worry about loss and regain.

I do the same thing with drinking Water if i think I'm hungry. A lot of times its thirst masquerading as hunger. I have a little sign over my desk at work that says "you are not hungry, you are thirsty...drink some water and learn the difference" i probably look at that 100x a day and every time i do i drink.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
