Recommended Posts

YAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!! :P

i called Dr Spivak's office to see if they had received my loan approval...they had. so, i was able to set up my surgery date. June 5, 2006 is my big day!! everything is happening so fast. i went to the seminar/consult last wednesday...applied for the CapitalOne Healthcare Loan that wednesday night...got approved the next day...whoo!!:drama: i'm so excited, but nervous too. the office said i would be getting all of my paperwork in the mail and that i should think low-carb until my surgery.

if anyone could offer me advise in how to prepare or if any dr spivak's patients on this website reads this post, it would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks ya'll,

cutiern:D

Try and do as they say with the low carb diet. It will make your surgery easier. They want your liver to shrink some for surgery so they tell you to eat this way.

You have chosen a great Doctor! I couldn't be more happy about my lifestyle change. I do not regret for one second the choice to have this surgery.

I had horrible gas pains, not all people do... so make sure you get some chewable Gas X.

My favorite thing was the sugar free Fudge Popsicles. They are yummy!!!

Best of luck to you!

Yeah!!! And I would be concerned if you weren't a little nervous. It is surgery and this is a habit-altering decision. But you will be so HAPPY when you get your new friend. It is a good life!

Yeah!!! I agree with Heather. Try to start your low-carb diet now. It helps with the surgery, plus you will not have the shock of changing your diet right after surgery. I swear, that helped me a lot with the head-hungrys after surgery. The liquid diet phase can be hard if you are used to eating a lot. But doing the pre-op diet, it makes that transition easier... IMO...

Congratulations!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
