Hey guys,

I would like to give you an update. I am now down to 207 pounds. 6 weeks from surgery. I have officially beat 3 weight loss goals that they have set for me. One which isn't suppose to be until August 29th. I am very proud of myself but the problem is that I can still eat way too much and have a fill of 6 CC in a 14CC band. I am only eating one small meal a day and I have two Protein shakes and one Protein Bar a day they rest of the time. Please help..

Thanks

Ryley

Had A Blonde Moment ! OK six weeks since being banded; sounds like you are doing great. I was banded June 4th. Have steadily lost until last week. Only thing different was I started juicing too with a Nutribullet. Kinda Discouraged Now!

Congrats on your weight loss.

Fills are supposed to be dependent on how well your hunger is controlled- not how much you can eat. The band isn't meant to physically stop you from eating anything. What it is supposed to do is allow you to go much longer without hunger. http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

If you are past the post op diet and back on normal food, then you really should be eating healthy meals not relying on Protein drinks and bars for the majority of your calories. Good nutrition is so crucial.

What type of food guidelines does your nutritionist recommend?

Sorry I'm confused. You say you can eat too much but you're having one small meal and Protein shakes. That doesn't sound like a lot. Are you saying you're hungry in between those things?

#1, shakes go straight through the band. If you need it to get your Protein intake up, I understand, but the way your band works is you eat solid food and it keeps you satisfied (as in not hungry) for longer. Having a Protein shake as a meal defeats that purpose, so yes, you WILL feel hungry not long after a Protein Shake because you just bypassed the band altogether.

#2, if you eat solid food and get hungry (and I mean real hunger as opposed to 'I'm not full') in a couple of hours then yes, you probably need more fill. The goal is to eat a cupful or so of hard protein first, veg and carbs if your dr isn't opposed to it, and have the band help you remain satisfied (as in no longer hungry as opposed to 'full') for 3-4 hours.

#3 a lot of people keep filling the band thinking that it's only working if it stops them being able to eat. Not true. You still have to eat, everyone needs to be able to eat. With the band you SHOULD be able to eat whole, solid food because if you can only eat a little, you're better off eating proper food with nutritional value than eating a Protein Bar.

I hope that made sense. I don't think whether you need a fill or not is relevant unless you are eating in a way that works with your band.

This is very helpful. My doctor wants me to drink the Protein Shakes but I am going to start eating three meals a day instead of one and see what happens.

sometimes doctors will tell you to drink Protein Shakes if you're still healing or they want you to supplement your Protein intake, but it should NOT be used as a Meal Replacement.< /p>

And the Protein Shakes seem to be a uniquely US thing. Australian doctors generally say once you're healed, no drinking your calories! :P

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
