Today I am going to see a hypnotherapist. As I wait for a surgery date I am working to get all my ducks in a row. I decided to do some therapy to help me sort out the different kinds of hunger as well as self-image issues, privacy about who I am telling, etc. I went through a long list of providers covered by our insurance and was surprised to see a hypnotherapist listed. I have had hypnotherapy before and love the feeling of bypassing my chattering mind to fully relax. That kind of mindfulness is what I need to bring to my banded life as I will be working hard to make excellent choices and avoid stress eating. Just wondered if any one else has used hypnosis or meditation to help with reinforcement.

I'm preparing a list of what I want to address in these sessions:

S-L-O-W eating, very slow and mindful.

Put down the fork between bites.

Look at the food and enjoy the colors, the smells, the plate itself.

Listen for hunger sensations and notice fullness.

Eat three meals a day, no grazing and snacking.

Any thoughts are welcome! Thanks so much.

Hypnosis is a wonderful idea. I love the relaxation aspect hypnosis brings. Good luck to you. I hope that it helps!

Hypnosis helped me with anxiety and smoking cessation, but I never really tried it for weight control.

It also helped with pain management. When I was banded, I had severe complications from diaphragmatic damage. Pain medication didn't help at all. Hydrotherapy and hypnotherapy did help a little.

I use hypnosis techniques during dental procedures and often can manage without painkillers.

I am going to be going soon, specifically to shut down midnight hunger. I am a night owl, and by 11 or 12 I am hungry again. I know that when I can manage not to eat that late, I lose weight, I just don't manage it often enough!

Best of luck with yours!

Wow! I think that is cool. I'm gonna have to check my specialist list and see if they are covered. Sounds like fun. I've always wanted to be hypnotized just for fun but who knows, it may in fact be a great experience. LOL Good luck.

There are several self hypnosis apps for iphone/ipad/android for hunger and weight loss and some are free! I like to listen to those for hunger and cravings. The best part is that I can listen to them at night as I drift off to sleep, or when I'm having stressful day and want to eat the fustrations away :)

It's all a part of our mind body connection, and a great way to relax and gain some insight into ourselves.

Enjoy!

A banded friend of mine suggested I try hypnosis before actually going through with the surgery as an atempt to trick my mind into thinking I was banded. I decided not to do it just because I think I'm too cynical to believe something that isn't true. Having said that, I think ii's certainly worth exploring this tool if you think it can help. Good luck..let us know how it works for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
