How long were you out of work after ?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I'm brand new to the site but have been reading your posts like crazy. I've read that the time you are out after the surgery depends on your job and your body of course.

Can I ask how long you were out for after surgery, what you do for a living and if you felt that was ample time to heal?

Thank you!! :)

Pain def wasn't as bad but still your back hurts, you have gas and will fart and burp and have discomfort for up to two week and also will get tired easily. I am only working part time as a summer school teacher... Give yourself at least 5 days!!! Def no less .. Congrats on your journey!

I had surgery on a Tuesday and returned to a desk job on the following Monday. That was ample time for me, but if you have a more physical job I think you would need more time.

I work at a hotel for dogs and cats so I'm constantly on the move. And dogs that may jump up on me... Eek. I'm definitely going to have to schedule surgery next year in January or later due to not having enough vacation or sick time to cover me for what I'm thinking I will need :/ yikes! Thanks to everyone who has responded so far!

I had my surgery on a Wednesday and went back to work the following Tuesday. Realized I was still in pain and needed to continue taking pain meds and took that Wednesday off and returned to work full time on Thursday. I have a desk job. I would say you will need at least 7 days to recover. Tomorrow is my two week mark and I feel 100%.

no one can tell you when you should return to work. Your body is different than the next person. Myself im s teacher so im lucky to have the summers off that's why I waited until June to have the surgery. However, I was driving within 3 days and going to the grocery store for a little shopping. Just listen to your body and do what you can.

I hear a few people every now and then say that they are in pain. I had no pain. In fact I didn't even get my pain medicine filled. Are you still in pain? How are you feeling?

I work in a call center environment and took off two weeks as vacation, but could have been back in a week. I recovered really well without a lot of pain medicine. Glad you joined!!

I work at a hotel doing a lot of movements and standing. I took off one week vacation time and then after that week I went back to work and almost fainted. I was in pain and i felt like my stitches and staples were being ripped from my body, I decided to take an extra week off. to be honest I could have taking another 2-3 days off.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
