GeorgeSeifert 49 Posted July 16, 2013 3 days post op, just took bandages off. Do I have to cover the incisions back up? I would prefer not to cause I am allergic. My IV site where the tape was looks nasty. Thoughts?
lellow 1,713 Posted July 16, 2013 I'm allergic to surgical tape too so I asked specifically when I could take them off and they said 6 days. I get blisters under where the tape is, so yes it looks nasty too after a few days. But I think the tape is to keep the scars from puckering and infecting, so if you have taken them off, it might be an idea to go get a different sort, wash the area with anti-bacterial soap and cover them over again. Just to be on the safe side. Is there anyone from your medical team you can ask? 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
BklynPenny 51 Posted July 16, 2013 Mine were removed today. Dr stated I can start using Merderma for scaring.
Lori45 70 Posted July 16, 2013 As long as u shower with antibacterial soap and pat them dry ( make sure to always keep incisions clean and dry) u should be able to keep them open to air, this will also be good for healing. Just be aware if they get red, warm to touch, or have drainage and or fever starting call ur dr ASAP . Hope that helps Lori RN 2 lellow and BklynPenny reacted to this
GeorgeSeifert 49 Posted July 16, 2013 Thank you. I think I am going to try to keep uncovered but a few stitches keep snagging.
Alivami@12 46 Posted July 16, 2013 I was told to leave them alone wash normal ( dial anti bacterial soap) and just leave alone. After 2 weeks the taped has fallen off & today I put coco butter on it so it won't scar. Feel better.
GeorgeSeifert 49 Posted July 16, 2013 My concern is, what to put on them if I cover them. I have read that I shouldn't use neosporin cause it can trap the dirt.....
SolracSpree 133 Posted July 16, 2013 They have hypoallergenic tape at Walgreens and CVS. My stitches are infected so I have to keep them covered but i'm allergic to bandaid adhesive. The tape plus gauze have worked miracles 1 LapBandit2013 reacted to this
