Is it risky to take liquid motrin or NSAIDS or will they still cause band errosion? Help I need to know cause I need need need some bad for pain instead of narcotic pain meds left over from gallbladder surgery 7 mos ago. I'm packing the house up for a move and my knee is giving me fits and also my back. I sure as heck don't know how in the world I walked around with 70lbs extra on me a yr ago, dang.

Thanks

Donna

I think it is risky, but to be honest I have taken liquid ibuprofen (children's) at an adult dose when I had horrible cramps a couple of times, it didn't kill me. I still try and take care of pain homeopathically, and have found some relief in tonics. Also, arnica rubs, heating pads and icing really helps. If you have a natural foods store or an herbalist nearby, go in and look at what they have.

maybe try tramadol helps and its none addictive Im not sure if it comes in liquid I know all about back pain its a pain I wouldn't wish on anyone and hasn't been better since loosing 125 pounds as for pain I take 800 mgs motrin and have never had pain again by taking motrin even with my galbladder being taken out or a hernia repair long term use does cause liver damage but other wise talk with you're doctor or his nurse to be safe

as jen stated, if there is a question such as (is it okay to do this) that is a sure sign to call and ask your doctor (especially in regards to medicines)

my dr told me to not take NSAIDS before surgery and havent done so since..i have read on here of people who do, so that tells me we all have different dr's/way of doing things....but it doesnt mean it is right for you...i sure do miss my motrin 800 , esp around TOM but i just do my Walmart version of tylenol now.....call and ask your dr today, he may say yes....

You'll have to ask your doctor because you'll get a wide array of answers here. Whether or not he allows you will likely depend on your specific medical history and needs.

My doctor allows me to take NSAIDS. His logic is if I never had ulcer issues before the band (and I took lots of them) then chances are good I won't after either. But again, his decision to allow them is based on my personal medical history.

With that said- I can no longer take NSAIDS because now I'm on blood thinners. It sucks really bad because Tylenol is totally useless for me. I know you don't want to take a narcotic but that's what I do now because I have no other choices. I take a Vicodin when I have a lot of pain.

Tylenol is like a fart in the wind. I used to take lots of ibuprofen before surgery, and I miss IT more than any food item  I had a bad sinus headache last week, so I took a swig of Lortab. I hate it, because then I'm a space case for hours. But when the pain is really bad, I do what I gotta do

Originally I only took NSAID's in liquid form for the first couple of years. Now I take ibuprofen in pill form when I need it which isn't really that often and so far I haven't had problems and I'm over 4 years out. My doc always said liquid motrin is fine because it doesn't sit in the pouch like a pill will.

Before I was on blood thinners- I did the same. In fact, my doctor has the same logic as yours that the liquid doesn't sit in the pouch so much less risk. I never had a problem swallowing the pills so I did take them.

I can tell when a pill gets hung up above the band and the little Ibuprofen tablets never have for me.

Ugh I can't wait until I can take Ibuprofen again. 4 1/2 more months.

Aside from all my other medical issues my body is "riddled" with osteoarthritis. I grew up with aspirin and always used it sparingly. I mean my mother was the St Joseph's children's aspirin queen when it came to my brother and I growing up. I'm showing my age but the doctor made house calls when we were kids (back in the 50's and 60's). Anyway, we were usually prescribed penicillin and baby aspirin (this was before Reyes Syndrome actually was discovered as a disease or symptom). Anyway, the irony of it all was my mother developed ulcers and had to stop taking aspirin. She also became allergic to penicillin as did my brother. I have never ever had a problem with either and I have to say I do miss my aspirin. I take Lortab or Vicodin for pain now but I miss my aspirin a lot. It works on my headaches and my arthritis. My doctor said absolutely NO aspirin or ibuprofen for fear of band erosion. I figured if it causes band erosion I'll skip the aspirin but it's the only drug that relieves my joint pain completely. Lortab or Vicodin relieves it only a tinge. If I didn't have the band I'd be using my aspirin, that's for sure.

Hopefully, as I lose more weight my joint pain will be less and less.

Well as most of you have stated NO NSAIDS for me either per dr's orders today over the phone. He did say this tho, if I absolutely had to take liquid Motrin for severe pain take it but please try to stay away from it. It's just I'm trying to pack up my mom's house, carrying heavy boxes in/out of the house to the garage, getting ready for yard sale and packing things to the garage for that and I'm am up on my bad knee constantly and in the midst of moving over these next 6 weeks I can foresee this getting worse with pain. I do have some Tramadol on hand but that doesn't really knock the pain out. Thanks everyone for giving me suggestions and advice.

Donna

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
