I was banded on the 25th and the gas pains have pretty much subsided and I'm still pretty sore around the incision sites, but now I'm dealing with EXTREME hunger pains! All these liquid Protein Drinks are starting to make me more nauseous with every sip! I'm so tempted to eat some pudding or thin mashed potatoes. Help! Did anyone else have this problem?!

Yes, I had this problem also. Try creamier Soups and Tomato Soup. They are a little thicker and will keep you full longer. Hang in there, the mushies are coming!

I had a horrible headache the day before surgery, only had one day of pre-op liquid diet but it was a bad one. I got banded on the 26th and I am allowed to take some of my usual daily prescriptions. Are you having trouble with keeping things down?

Best of luck!

Yes, I'm keeping everything down. It's an adjustment on how to eat slow. I've ate to fast a couple of times and though I was dying. I'm going for my first full on Wednesday. I'm a little nervous.

Can I ask what it was like when you ate too quickly? Thanks!

I had tight feeling in my chest. It finally went away after 20 mins. One of my co works told me about these Vitamins called Papaya Enzymes. They are to help digest for food faster if you eat to fast. I've not done any research or ask my DR about them.

I've been taking Gas X twice a day since my banding on the 23rd. It had helped a lot. Any moving you can do will help also. I've noticed that when I lay on my side I get a lot of gas out.

Congrats on being banded. For healing it is impt to follow whatever post op diet your doc gave you. Have you had broth or hot tea? That has helped my hunger pains at times.

So, I had a horrible scare yesterday and trust me, it takes a lot. I opened a new bag or Protein Shake mix, Cookies and cream, not sure why, I don't like cookies and cream but anyway, it was a zip lock type of bag but it was sealed shut so I had to cut the bag open. I make my shake, sit down and take a sip. It burned my throat, like it was acid. I should mention that it smelled odd, like burnt. I took it back to GNC and swapped it out. The girl said straight away that it smelled odd. Back to vanilla and chocolate!

When were you banded? I need filled so bad. I really have no restrictions and can eat and drink all I want. Thank god I have a small amount of will power and stayed pretty much on the diet.

Gas seeks the path of least resistance. One thing that helped, was go down to your knees and then go down to your elbows with your butt in the air. Trust me, it sounds crazy but it works. This tip came from someone on here.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
