vomiting question

Recommended Posts

I've had an upset stomach all day and finally got some relief when I vomited. I've had my band for over a year... and I know that vomiting is not something they really want us to do....so I wanted to ask you veterans if you think I should go back to liquids for a couple days... I am scheduled to see my ,"band" Dr on Wednesday. (Sorry to be so graphic ...but thought I could ask my friends)

Vomiting once probably is ok. Continues vomiting I would say call your doctor for some anti nausea medicine. If you are struggling with solid food the yes go to mushy or liquids. Your band will let you know if it is irritated....

But I am not a medical professional, this is just my thought. Best advise is always to call your doctor.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking but needed some reassurance that I was doing the right thing.

Really depends for me; depending on what got me stuck I do have to go back to at least soft foods for a day or two because I guess my stomach get irritated easily. If I keep trying to eat those foods I continue to get stuck and then I really CAN'T do anything but liquids...

I really wasn't stuck...it was grease in the food that upset my stomach and after several hours of pain and nausea I vomited. I went back to soft foods and felt so much better.

If I happen to get sick from eating too much or if I just have a bug, I usually take it easy and eat mushy foods for a couple of days. Seems to help.

I've had food poisoning or a stomach flu 2 x since being banded. I had to stay on saltines for a day or 2 and then ease back into it. Feel better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
