I thought I would introduce myself. In 2001 I had an open RNY. My outlet was made too large from the get go. I had to work for every single pound I lost, but managed to lose 100lbs, then stopped. I had several hernia repairs due to my original surgery, got pregnant, went through a divorce, got remarried and life went on.

Fast forward to last year. I suddenly started having stomach issues. Had, bloating, runs, pain in stomach. Since then I have dropped 40 more pounds just due to being ill. After having some tests, it was found that my outlet was stretched to the size of my intestine. It's a gaping hole. My surgeon thinks it may help my issues to put a band around the lower part of my pouch to slow the dumping of food into my intestine.

I'm very excited to 1. Feel better and 2. Have a tool to help new get the rest of this weight off. At this point I'm constantly hungry, but use a lot of self control not to eat...I hope the band will help curb my hunger.

I'm still going through the insurance process, but plan to be through all of that and have my stuff sent in for approval the first week of August. I'm having to work not to lose more weight because at this point my bmi is sitting right at 40.

Nice to meet you all! Are there any other band over bandsters here

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
