Happy Bandster...Almost at 1 Month!

Recommended Posts

First, I love my band - it's one of the best things I've done for myself! I know enough about it that I will need a few more fills to get to the Green Zone, but I can deal with the slight hunger I'm experiencing in the meantime. What I'm overjoyed about is the variety of foods I can enjoy...and I do mean enjoy! Today I had 8 grilled shrimp and a salad for lunch - man was that tasty! Being on liquids for a long time has given me a new appreciation for food, I don't have any cravings anymore and that allows me to make better food choices. I'd also like to add that my mother was nearly in tears seeing how much I've lost already and when she saw I could eat the dinner she cooked, she wanted to scream - LOL. Baked chicken (dark meat, skinless), fresh collard greens from her garden - POWER PACKED!, fresh corn on the cob and a few black eyed peasfrom the farmer's market. Yum - my! I know that I may not be able to enjoy these foods after more fills, but for the time being, I am happy at the variety I have in my diet - all while staying under 1,200 cals a day - YEAH!

I'm still learning a lot, but I am overjoyed that I am not nearly as restricted as I thought I'd be.

Congrats. I am 4.5 months out and have 1cc in a 10cc band and so far I have not had anything that I couldn't tolerate, I was afraid of rice, lettuce, Buns, etc, but so far so good, everything in moderation =)

Keep up the good work!

Wow! You only have 1cc...I don't think there's anything you can't tolerate with that. I was banded with 3cc's and had 1cc added last week. I feel no restriction, I really wish I did but I know that will come with more fills. You are doing great, keep up the good work!!!

I wish I could eat food again. I am 3 days from being 1 month post op and still on mushies! Im sure things will get better once I get to that point though.

Wow. Congrats. I haven't had a full but bread and hamburger are not my band's friend. But I'm ok with that. I'm only 2.5 weeks weeks out so there may be a small bit of swelling still! Luckily my dr allowed us to have mushies the day after surgery! This is definitely a lifestyle change but I'm up to it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
