Worried about anesthetic

Recommended Posts

I'm three weeks away from my surgery and worried about having sleepy juice for the surgery. I've been put to sleep for surgery before but that was years ago and I was thin. I've been told that anesthetic is dangerous for very overweight people.. Did anybody out there have any complications???

I had never had surgery before this (2 wks ago) and was really nervous about the anesthetic as well, but everything was fine. I drifted right off and woke up really tired. That was it. Good luck! Im sure you'll be fine.

I am having surgery this Friday and am also nervous about going under. I am a nurse and have seen many people put to sleep but have never been put under. I have never even taken medication other than during childbirth and over the counter meds. I am having anxiety but praying for a smooth uncomplicated surgery. Just ready to wake up and hug my husband.

It will be fine. Looking back its funny how nervous I was about it. It was just fear of the unknown for me I think.

Mommyofk that's how I feel! The one time I was put under I was half my size so I'm just praying I'll wake up and everything is fine!

That is why they require all the tests prior to Lap Band Surgery. In our state there are only 3 hospitals that my insurance will qualify to cover Banding. ( Also why going to Mexico for "cheap" is dangerous.) Go with a happy thought and relax. You are heading for a healthy life

I'm so glad you brought that up about going to Mexico for cheap. I almost went that route when my insurance came through and I chose to use a surgeon that is 2 1/2 hrs by car. My insurance covered me because of the hospital he is affiliated with. There is a surgeon closer that does bariatric surgery but my insurance would not cover his fee or the hospital he's affiliated with. People ask me why I go so far, well first and foremost I like my surgeon but my insurance picked up almost everything.

I have the utmost respect for people who had surgery in Mexico but I also had a fear of the unknown in a foreign country. The anesthesia factor weighed in heavily as well. I was really worried if complications set in I would be stuck in a foreign country.

Having lived in Mexico and having friends who are ancient and are in and out of Mexican hospitals, I would say medical care, in Central Mexico at least, is as good or better, and certainly less expensive than in the US. I would personally be less inclined to seek medical care in any of the border towns, simply because they tend not to be safe places to visit regardless. The biggest reason I can see not to go to Mx for surgery is that you would possibly have too much trouble finding a good surgeon willing to follow your aftercare.

Back to the topic at hand though, talk to your anesthetist about your fears. They can explain how the anesthetics are delivered and processed in your system, what it will feel like and how quickly and smoothly you will wake up after surgery. These days, anesthetics are so smooth and so much better than when I was a kid, it really feels like you just closed your eyes for a moment...

Well I was super nervous about being out under and all but it went very smooth. I cried as soon as I left my husband but within 3 minutes I was out and don't remember anything until I was waking up. I was kind of scared when I woke up because I didn't know what to expect. Definitely drowsy and a mix of pain and soreness but all mild. 10-15 minutes after I woke up I was walking to my x ray! You will be fine! Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
