I am four months into my 6 month insurance mandated weight loss trial and I have gained 7lbs. Not to make excuses, by my mother passed away 8 weeks in (she died of the day of my second appt.) . My doctor has not seemed worried about it. Can you still get approved if you have not lost weight? Or have I really messed myself up?

Sorry to hear about your mother. Just remember, tomorrow is a new day. Forget about what went wrong and try it again.

Good luck.

Condolences on the loss of your mother. My understanding of the weight loss part of the process is not so much to lose weight as it is to document trying to lose weight. I think it's the one weight loss attempt where actual weight loss is not necessarily the goal. Having said that, I'd still check with your doctor. I just know that in my case, the insurance company just needed documentation from my PCP that I attempted weight loss under a doctor's care....and not that I had to be successful at it. And I wasn't. I stayed the same weight for the three months I was documented. Just as an FYI, the success came after banding. 71 lbs. down in 6 1/2 months...45 to go.

I was thinking I didn't "have" to lose weight, as he doesn't really push hard, and has been more just concerned about my emotional well being. I am trying to get back on track, but it is hard. I don't work outside of the home, so I spend a lot of time at home feeling sad and emotionally eating. I am attempting to get out more and walk more. Thanks for condolences.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother, my sincerest condolences.

I have records going back over 20 yrs of my attempts to lose weight. So my insurance company had proof that I had many failed attempts at losing weight including taking that scandalous drug combo phen-fen. Does anyone remember the phen-fen craze? People were getting pretty sick and there was a class action suit where the pharmaceutical company had to pay for ECG's because people were having irreversible damage done to their hearts. Luckily, my ECG read normal but that was a big scandal either in the 80's or 90's not sure.

Anyway, my point is I did not have to go on a 6 wk diet or a 30 day diet to be approved by my insurance. My PCP documented that it was medically necessary for me to have this surgery due to all my health issues.

So I wouldn't worry about a weight gain, I mean, you've been through a lot and you are attempting to lose weight and it is being documented. Good luck to you. Sorry I got off the track but I tend to go off the subject but I hope you get my point. God bless.

I go for my 5th appointment today, I think I will ask if it interferes. I was originally not sure if I wanted WLS, just decided to do the program incase I did decide to do WLS. Now I am pretty positive about it, after reading a lot of blogs and what not. So I am hoping I'll be able to get banded by October. It would be nice to have it a month or so before the holidays kick in. I know I will be a mess this holiday season without my mom, and being banded then would maybe give me something to take the focus off my grief.

The first few months into my program I wasn't losing anything. My nurses were always upbeat and never really worried about the number and just worried about if I was trying to make changes. I started to listen to them and in the end only lost a small bit, but it shows just how much more I needed WLS to help me. I was approved in just a few days after sending out paper work. Don't stress, it is really just a process to learn as much as you can and prepare your self for the band. The more you learn, the more you will put it to use and even if you just lose a few pounds.. that's one step closer! I'm sorry you are having to go through all this but just keep your best foot forward and you will do great! Keep it going girl! :D

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
