collagen supplements

Recommended Posts

Have any of you taken collagen supplements to help your skin elasticity? I have over 200lbs to lose and i've been over weight all my life and I don't really want excessive sagging skin. I know I'll have some excess skin I just don't want a "muffin top".

I'll be honest, I tried everything. Vitamin E, Keratin, collagen, Retinol, Alpha Hydroxy, etc. If they make it in a cream or as a supplement, I tried it.

I've lost over 200 pounds and despite all my efforts still have a ton of loose skin. In fact, I just had over 12 pounds of skin removed from my tummy 2 months ago.

Whether or not you have excess skin really boils down to genetics, how much weight you lose, age, and how long you've been overweight. Some people get lucky and don't have skin issues but others (like me) do regardless of what we try.

But here is what I tell people: I'd rather have excess skin than excess fat. I can hide the extra skin with clothes. I couldn't hide 200+ pounds of excess fat.

The skin is totally worth it.

If you don't mind me asking how old are you?? I'm 21 and I'm hoping that because of my age my skin is still retractable. How long did it take you to lose 200lbs?

I just turned 40. I've lost 222 pound in 18 months.

You might have better luck than me because of your age- I hope for your sake you do. But be prepared because when losing so much, some excess skin is kinda inevitable. This is particularly true if your tummy already "hangs". (just being honest).

Honestly, no. My main source of exercise is walking. When I started this journey I walked with a cane and could barely get around my house. I started slowly going down my street and back, then further and further as I got stronger and lost weight. Now, I walk 2 miles a day and haven't needed a cane in over a year.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
