Pureed diet question

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 3 weeks out of banding and am in the pureed diet phase. I was looking over my list of things that I can eat but have a question for you all. In the pureed diet phase can I eat anything as long as it is pureed? for example, my sister made a great Pasta sauce/chili full of Beans, tomatoes and garlic. I took maybe 1/4 a cup of pasta (just to firm up the pureed sauce) and half a cup of the chili/sauce and put it in my magic bullet, pureed it and ate it. I was thinking about it later and I got worried that maybe I somehow cheated. My list of pureed foods says oatmeal, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, pureed soft fruit and some other soft things like that. Do you guys think that pureed diet means anything (healthy) that is pureed?

Yes, in fact a lot of us did exactly what you're doing.

Think of puree as the constancy food needs to be. So, if you can puree it, you can eat it.

One of my favorites at that phase was taking some chili and pureeing it with a bit of cream cheese. I also took chicken and puree'd it with chicken broth.

...I called it the "baby food" stage lol.

Thanks Missy! I actually went and bought some baby food for an easy to go meal. I was just worried since it wasn't explicitly laid out in my directions that I was doing something wrong ^_^

My Doc also stated this afternoon that anything can be eaten, just make good choices, no junk food, do not over eat.

Tonights supper was chicken tenderloins in Tomato sauce w/ onions, celery, green peppers, mushrooms. Pureed! Of course the wife was able to have a mini baguette with her non pureed meal. I chose not to puree that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
