Tricare Prime West / United Health Military

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I have Tricare prime which is now run by United Health Care! I've gone through the mandatory requirements to be considered for the surgery and yesterday my PCM wrote me a referral!

I'm beyond excited that the ball is officially moving but I've read horror stories about people's experiences with Tricare Prime West.

Has anyone really recently went through this process with the new switch to United? I'm petrified that I'm going to be denied even though my BMI is around 49.

Thanks!

I don't have prime u have standard . I wanted to go to a dr. That specialized in this area verses a general surgeon provided by the military. It took a month to hear back if I was approved for surgery.

Hey! I have United Health Care and they have been wonderful! They approved me after all my pre-op stuff was taken care of. They were quick to respond with the approval and have been in touch with me every month to see how I'm doing! I hope you have the same experience as I am having! They were even understanding when my Father lost his job a few weeks back, but because my Surgery had been set etc I'm able to still have it etc. :D

Danica, I was wondering the same thing....I work in healthcare and the switch to United Health Military has been a nightmare. How did the approval process go?

Hey Nee! The process so far has went pretty smoothly no real hiccups in the road. I first saw my PCM in April 2013, and now on Tuesday, September 10th, I go and see my surgeon again and I'll get my surgery date for the lapband and also that when he'll send him my actual referral for the surgery.

I'll definitely let you know. UHC Military has played a long so far, but the biggest battle of getting the actual surgery has not yet been attempted. I'll keep you up to date (:
