I felt like I may be getting constipated (pod 4 for me) too.... then today I had massive bm... like diarrhea mixed with formed stool... stomach was cramping unbelievably, but afterwards I felt 100% better! tmi probably, but just my experience! As a nurse I've heard your first lg bm after anesthesia usually clears the sluggishness out of your system, but that could just be one of those myths that get passed on and on...

Long story short, despite all the warnings to take a stool softener lousy op... it wasn't an issue for me. Would like to know about the anti-diarrheal though....

Well, I just wanted to pike on. I too was banded on the 11 of July and the gas pains are horrendous. Other then that, doing pretty good. I screwed up and ate 1 day post op. I was starving. Enough about all that, I started a thread about it should you want to read it. I have no trouble eating Popsicles, Jello, and drinking broth and Water. The gas is not getting better, at all. Yes, I am walking. Please don't tell me to. I am. And drinking Water.< /p>

Here's my thing, try to follow along cause its a little weird. If they puff you up with gas, under your skin but not in your stomach, how does the gas escape? It can't get into your esophagus or intestine to escape. I asked a doctor about this and he couldn't answer it. Seriously, think about it. Just under your skin, above your stomach, they inflate us. The throat is sealed, your ass is sealed. Where can the gas go to escape?

Anyhow, I hope this hunger thing subsides some and these gas pains reduce. My god, I now know what a heart attack feels like.

Best of luck to all of you. FTR, I did have a small BM 1 day post op, it was 3 little marbles but I don't know we could be pooping. I had to be liquid diet 5 days prior.

George

You're body just absorbs the CO2, but the CO2 itself has to be mobilized. In the Cath lab where I work if a pt's kidney function is poor we INJECT CO2 INTO THEIR ARTERIES AND VEINS!!! crazy, I know, but it doesn't hurt a thing. The image is just white on grey instead of black on grey. It gets absorbed, into the blood stream, A's back to the heart and expelled by the lungs.

But that's why we must walk. To break the bubbles up so they can be absorbed. Otherwise you get one big, angry bubble under your left rib like me :/

Ok, that I understand! Thank you. I must have a bubble the size of a football stadium because it really does feel like a heart attack for gods sake. My left shoulder is in agony. Deep breaths and yawning are the worst!

C02 straight into the artery huh? Wow, crazy. Who woulda thunk it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
