LapBand acronyms (WLS/PB/NVS)

Recommended Posts

OK So I am 3 weeks post op and fairly new to the world of the Lap-Band. With this being said sometimes I have NO IDEA what you people are talking about. So I wanted to start a list of acronyms often used on the site.

For example-

WLS - weight loss surgery ( pretty simple but still)

PB - Productive burp (?) Is this a "nice" way of saying throwing up?

NVS - (???) NO IDEA

PLEASE ADD TO MY LIST!

I hope this is beneficial to other new bandsters as well who might be too embarrassed to ask what these mean or can not figure it out in context.

I believe you mean NSV which means Non scale Victory. Example: Scale has not moved in weeks but my pants feel so much looser.

NSV= Non scale Victory, like when pants that didn't fit 2 weeks ago suddenly fit, or being able to climb stairs that you couldn't climb before, basically anything that is a success towards a healthy fit body, NOT just a # moving down on the scale. PB = Productive Burping, sometimes needed when food gets a little stuck, and a good burp clears it out. Hope this clears up the confusion, whats your best NSV so far, or what do you hope for one to be ? My 1st one was when I was 2 months banded, I ran into an old acquaintance who said "Have you lost weight ? You look thinner in the face !" ( I was down 17 lbs then ) Oh boy ! that made my day !!!! Good luck !

For me the best NSV so far was getting on the bike at the gym and being able to peddle without my legs hitting my belly up into my bust and knocking me off!

It probably looked about as funny as it sounds, but it wasn't a whole of fun for me! Not having it happen was a great NSV for me and I stayed on for 20 whole minutes!

PB is productive burp but it's not anything like vomiting.

PBing is literally just burping stuck food back up. No retching, no stomach contracting or spasming, and not violent. The food comes back up before it ever reaches your stomach.

Vomiting is when you retch and your stomach contracts forcing food back up, like when you have a stomach bug. This is when food is past the band and in your stomach.

PBing isn't pleasant but it isn't dangerous. Vomiting is very dangerous with the band, never normal, and should be avoided at all costs.

One I'm still not used to/sure of:

 I believe it's saying "love it" but I have trouble because I try to make it waking up blinking. It's not an acronym but I find it mystifying, lol (laugh out loud ;-)

I am having NSV this week. I am sure my scale is broken (ha ha, for sure). The compulsive me wants to run out and buy a new one. Was visiting a friend this weekend out of town and almost ran into his bathroom and used his, but refrained as I realized it was too compulsive. Should just throw the darn thing out.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
