Hello,

Well here I am, I am new. My surgery date is scheduled for May 17, 2006 in Houston with Dr. Spiegel and I am really nervous. I am so thankful I have found this site as I know I will be coming here quite often in the future. I am looking forward to talking with yall about the same thing we have all been dealing with probably most of our life. So good luck and God Bless you all! Have a great day!

Congratulations on your Surgery Date. I'm also new to the site. I don't have a surgery date yet, but have my first doctor consult on May 31 with Dr. Smith in Fort Worth. I'm looking forward to this summer and starting on my new road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best thing about using Dr. Spiegel, I had him do mine in Sept. is his nurses, which you have probably already noticed. I believe they have all done the procedure and can answer just about any question...

Hi Miss Macy, WELCOME to LapBandTalk.com

Im another one that Dr S has banded. One good thing I heard about him is that he has given THOUSANDS of bands - and NO erosions reported. That's something to smile about. :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

Good luck and let us know if you need anything.

I Went To My Regular Doctor Yesterday, And He Has Written A Letter Concerning My Health And It Has Been Faxed Straight To Medicaid Office, And Should Hear Something In And Around 25 Days. I Can't Hardly Wait For This Surgery. Why Do We Have To Get Fills After Surgery, Is It An Ongoing Process Of This Filling Up? Donna

MissMacy- Hope your surgery went well on Wednesday! Let us know how you're doing as soon as you're feeling better.

Donna- yes the fills are the whole reason for the lapband. Lap-Band is short for Adjustable Gastric Banding. It is an ongoing weightloss procedure that is adjusted throughout your life because as you lose weight the band will losen up.

Has anyone really explained this stuff to you?? I had to know everything about the band before I was even allowed to meet with my doc. There is a lot more that you should know before going into this.

:) Kristin

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
