August surgery anyone?

Recommended Posts

I just got the call, August 6th is the date for me! Got my other appointments the week before for pre-op and second meeting with the surgeon set also. I hate to wish summer away, especially since it is so short in northern MN, but I am so ready to do this. Anyone else have an August date yet?

Yes I'm August 6th!!! So I'm on day 3 of the pre-op phase that my surgeon wants me to do for a month- 3 shakes a day (can be replaced with the Soups and bars) and 2 cups of green vege. Aghhhh!

I don't have any pre-op diet, kinda happy about that, but I plan on doing something the week before surgery just to get in the groove of it.

Lucky you! There seems to be some real inconsistencies with the surgeons and pre-op diets. Or maybe it's more about how much you have to lose and how big your liver is? Anyway it's exciting to have the date and know that our lives are going to change in such a positive way. I'm excited! It's been such a long wait..

I am also having surgery on August 6. I start pre-op on the 23rd. I am excited but a little nervous after reading all of the complications. I have been waiting for approval for 3 months so I am ready.

SJP that's great news! It feels a bit more real once you start the pre-op diet. My biggest worry at the moment is my liver. I'm day 4 of the diet and it is getting easier but I'm really scared that my liver won't shrink enough and my surgery won't go ahead. Everyone on here seems to have had no problems with their liver so fingers crossed!

I'm scheduled for August 26th. I'll be doing a 3 day sugar free Clear Liquids diet before hand. My weight is just high enough to put me at a 40 BMI which is a very good thing because I don't have any major comorbidities which my insurance requires for those under 40. Insurance should cover 100% which makes me feel very fortunate.

That's great news! It's a long wait to get to surgery isn't it? It's been 12 months for me and probably a year before that that I wanted the lapband. Wish I had made the decision earlier, but thought I could lose the weight on my own because I've done it before. But I was wrong! Anyway I'm three weeks away from surgery now. Excited and nervous but know it will be life changing :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
