SO hungry! 5 days post op

Recommended Posts

I'm currently 5 days post op, I started at 197, and I am currently down 15 lbs (pre-op diet included) to 182 lbs. The past few days I have been completely satisfied with broth and Jello, but now that I am feeling better, I'm intensely craving REAL food. Have any of you experienced this as well? Are there other things to eat that I just haven't thought of for the 1 week post op liquid diet? If not, how did you deal with the hunger?!

you experiencing hunger because the swelling has gone down from the surgery. You will be hungry like that until you get your fill. Drink plenty or Protein that will help with the hunger.

Stick with the Protein drinks. Soup actually helped to fill me up. I had cream of mushroom. The warmth almost feels like it expands in your stomach. Popsicles are good for something sweet. I've been there. Only banded for less than three weeks. My doc gave me go ahead with soft foods after week one because I told him about serious hunger pains. Good advice: make sure you are hungry and not just thinking if food. I was genuinely hungry. Do what doc says. Staying busy helped me to escape the hunger thoughts. Good luck!

Yes! I promise it gets better! It wasn't until my 5th day that I was hungry at all. But when I finally got to that point, I was HUNGRY.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
