1st fill but no result

Recommended Posts

Hey Aussie Girls,

I'm going through a bit of a bad patch so I wanted to ask you all about your early experiences with the band. I was banded 5 weeks ago and had my first fill of 1cc almost two weeks ago. I lost 3kg during the pre op diet phase. I lost another 3 kg in the weeks after the operation. I recovered very quickly and since then I have experienced little or no restriction. I've been stuggling to maintain any weight loss, in fact I had put on 1 kg before my first fill. In the days after my first fill I thought all my Christmas' had come at once. I felt a good amount of restriction and regularly left food on m y plate. Then, 3 days later, the restriction disappeared and I have battling my pre op hunger again. I'm terrifed to get on the scales because I'm certain I have put on weight. I feel like a bit of a failure at the moment. Am I being impatient? When did you all get to that magic 'sweet spot' I hear so much about. Thank you for your support.

Warm regards,

Fleur

Hi Fleur,

I was banded the same day as you were but my surgeon does not give a first fill until 8 weeks post-op! Like you, I had no restriction post-op and continue to have to force myself not to overeat. I am so hoping to fill restriction when I go on May 25th but my biggest worry is that it won't do much as in your case. Will your MD give you another fill this week?

Hello! Schedule yourself another fill. I had my first fill on April 12, and within 2 weeks, I was eating any and everything again. I havent gained any weight back, but I havent lost any more weight since then.

The doc who did my first fill told me, as she was adjusting the band and watching the flouro, that the first fill is typically absorbed by the band within 2 weeks or so. She told me to simply call and schedule another fill if I stopped losing weight, or if my appetite increased.

So, IMO, your first fill has done that "disappearing act" that so many bandsters experience. Do not be discouraged! Just keep in mind that this is a slow journey, and as eager as we all are to be thin, we MUST keep our goals realistic. Hang in there girl!

Hi Fleur

i have been banded for 6 months now and still not sure if i have hit that sweet spot as yet. It can take up to 4 or 5 fills for you to actually start feeling restriction. You will notice a difference once u get your next fill hopefully. Hang in there, be patient and dont get to disheartened as you are only on the beginning of your new journey.

If your worried about gaining weight call your surgeon to book in for another fill.

Goodluck and keep us posted:)

Hi Girls, Thanks you all so much for your support. I had my fill last Monday. This time my appointment was with the lady doctor who assists the surgeon. She was fabulous and the fill didn't hurt as much as my first fill with the surgeon. I felt good restriction straight away and I lost a kilo by Friday - very Happy. I have noticed a little easing off of restriction over the weekend but I'm still not that hungry. I'm still booked in to have another fill in a weeks time which I hope I get. The doctor said that smallish women often need at least 3ml to get going...and by smallish I mean the size of my frame not the size of my current rear. She also said that if you fly a lot restriction will fluctuate and disipate - interesting.

Warm Regards,

Fleur

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
