frustrated!!

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 24 post-op, at day 21 I had a total weight loss of 16.8 lbs., doing good, loosing right along. Walking an average of 4.5-4.75 mi/day, 3-5 days a week. Day 22 I'm up 1.11 lbs. UGH! Day 24 (today) and up another 1.4 lbs...WTH!! I have noticed that I am getting a little more hungry and able to eat a little more. I journal daily; meals, exercise, weight to stay honest. I'm up a total of 3.3 lbs, so wrong!!! My 16.8 total weight loss has gone down to 13 total lost. I'm due for my first fill on Thursday this week. I'm going to get a fill-up!!! Frustration#@%*!!!!!!!!! Anyone else going through or has gone through the same thing? Am I the only one this is happening to?

That is a very small weight fluctuation. Your weight can go up or down 3 pounds in just one day. Sodium, hormones, not drinking enough Water, etc can all effect your weight.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. You're tracking your calories and exercising. It'll come back off and likely take another pound or two with it.

OMG!! Are you kidding me, 3 lbs in one day...YIKES!!! Is that normal?? Well normal or not it's still frustrating!

Very normal. And if it's going to bother and frustrate you that much, don't weigh yourself daily. As Missy said, if you work the program, you will succeed. Good luck to you!

Agree with the above... 3 pounds a day is perfectly normal. Your weight will fluctuate. I would recommend weighing weekly. Are you taking your measurements? That is another method of tracking progress. Don't stress!

Thanks for the information, words of wisdom and words of encouragement. I guess I'm just panicked, I've failed so many times I don't want it to be another failure. I have to weigh daily, I feel like it keeps me on track. I'm just going to have to trust myself and let it all work for me. I'll try not to stress, no promises though, lol.

To gain a true pound overnight you would have to eat 3500 more calories than you burned in a day. Now that might have been something we could have done in the past. But it's unlikely you did that so it's probably just Water weight as the others said. I weigh myself daily and now after six months I know before getting on the scale if it's going to be up a little. I can feel a heaviness in my legs or feel bloated from water weight. But I also know it will go away. If you log everything you eat then you'll know there's no way you actually gained and it's just water weight. Best of luck on your journey!

Thanks Tara-U...well that many calories even a few months ago wouldn't have been a problem, sadly. I weighed this morning and I'm down 2.2 lbs., hate the fluctuations. UGH!!! I was reading some posts yesterday and a couple people were tallking about their first fill and how one had lost 32 lbs and the other 34 and I'm thinking wow that's crazy, how?. I feel like I'm doing good, I'm on day 25 post-op and I have my first fill Thu this week but I've only lost 15 lbs. I just need to stay positive and focused.

Please try not to compare yourself. I know it's hard as I do it sometimes. Remember a 1-2 lbs/wk is average so you're doing well. Just follow your doctor's instructions and you'll do fine.

I went through that too...yes it can get fustrating but keep going...the scale will start moving again....it sounds like you're doing everything right...anything can affect your weight on any given day...so try not to weigh yourself every day.

Another factor in daily fluctuation are inflammation reactions we have to certain foods. Google The Plan by Lyn Genet and you will get more information. When you are cleared for all foods, or if you already are, her 20 day plan is a good way to find out which foods are reactive for you. I did it and found that I am highly reactive to cabbage and tomatoes. Many of the foods that 90% of people are reactive to are on the healthy foods lists for most diets (oatmeal, turkey, black Beans, tomatoes). It's very enlightening to read her book and go through the Plan. I was stuck not losing for 5 days when I should have been losing a half pound per day when I finally realized my salad mix had red cabbage in it. Well I checked the book and sure enough, cabbage was on the 85% reactive list. The next day I picked those little pieces of cabbage out and I was down 3 lbs the next day! I became a believer that day :-)

Thanks for that explanation as I was wondering myself why I keep gaining 3 pounds every other day when I know I don't eat 1000 calories a day.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
