I had a radical hysterectomy about 3 weeks ago. I am having lap band next week. Any other girls out there who have had hysterectomy and a lap band? Did you notice any change in your sex drive or menopausal symptoms after you started losing weight?

I cant take any hormones because the tumor they pulled out of me was a very low stage of cancer (not likely to spread.. but, still makes me ineligible for Estrogen). So, I'm curious as to how the weight loss might effect me.

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and lap band this year. Still have my ovaries. I haven't noticed any difference. Good luck!

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and lap band this year. Still have my ovaries. I haven't noticed any difference. Good luck!

I don't have ANYTHING left. No ovaries.. no lymph nodes.. they took the omentum (a fatty layer on the bottom of the stomach organ).. and, even the inner layer of fat from my abdomen (kind of like Lipo.. without Lipo). If they could have scraped the first layer off of my muscles and bones, they probably would have. I'm kind of bummed about it all. We were trying to conceive, when I found out I had to have the hysterectomy. Oh yeah.. and, then my step dad passed away (suddenly, and unexpectedly) 2 days before my surgery.

Hasn't been a good month. Everything is bumming me out. I'm hoping that that will all change with weight loss...

I have to have pelvic exams and cancer screenings twice a year for the next 5 years.

Just looking for a light at the end of the post menopausal tunnel. heh.

I am so sorry for all the struggles you are dealing with. To be honest, it all just sucks!. Hopefully things will turn around for you soon. I pray that you don't get too discouraged at the beginning of your lapband journey due to all the changes and stress. I know the first week after surgery, I questioned my actions.... a lot. Now I do not regret or question it at all. With all the hormone changes from the recent hysterectomy and the meds and stress on your body from the upcoming surgery remember to take time for yourself. Hang in there, I wish you the best!

I had a total hyst (ovaries and all) back in 08' then lapband in 09' I was single at the time and couldn't tell you about sex drive but I've been with my husband now since April of 12' (we are only two weeks out from our marriage) and things have been good, very good!

A hyst will not have too much of an affect on your sex drive after a while. Give yourself time to heal and keep lubrication for those times that you might need it. But I can honestly say there's only been a handful of times that I've needed it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
