I'm 10 days post op and yesterday for the 4th I ate food. Baked chicken Mac and cheese and asparagus....not a lot of each but enough that I got full. I feel terrible and afraid that I hurt my stomach from eating real food to soon. I chewed well but how do I know if I hurt myself? I'm afraid disappointed and ashamed.

Call your doctor, tell him exactly what you did, and let him decide if your band needs to be checked.

In the meantime, go back to your post op diet. The last thing you need is to rip out a stitch in your stomach or cause a slip.

You are human but mac and cheese is not one of the items you are suppose to eat. Try to get back in the ball game. the worst pain would be to experience a slippage or to have the band removed because of mistakes. I am five days after being banded and I am so tempted to eat solids but I do not want to risk the chance of ripping or hurting myself. Good luck!!

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to get back on track but honestly there is nothing that I can eat that I want to eat. Everything makes me sick at the thought of it. That's why I did what I did. I choose food I knew I could chew really well so it didn't hurt. I counted to 30 before I swallowed. I'm just eating applesauce and drinking Water at the moment. I go to the nutritionist Tuesday....hopefully she will help me out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
