I was banded on the 2nd of July. Everything went great, but I am having some pain on the left side. I don't think it is gas. I seem to pass that just fine. and I am confused it seems everyone is on liquids and Protein Shakes. I can have those but my doctor also said I may have creamy Soups like cream of chicken or Tomato.< /p>

Is your port on the left side? During the surgery there is a lot of manipulation and things are swollen and will be tender for awhile. It should get better each day. Some people like a heating pad on their abdomen, I preferred ice. Each surgeon also has a different diet progression, so it's best to follow what yours outlined for you.

This is exaggerated but you could eat normal food if you could chew it to a liquid. Always think about this when choosing your food. I moved on to solids quickly as I chew everything to a mush/liquid. Please note - don't take too long to eat a portion as the mush will slip through the band and you will be able to get alot more down. Any questions. Pls ask.

Yes the port is on the left side. I have been doing as the dr said. sad part is I really don't want anything at all. I am just not hungry at all but do my shakes and things just because I know I should have something. :)

With all due respect, this isn't true at all. It doesn't matter how much you chew your food, if you're on mushy or liquid phase then that should be the consistency before you put it in your mouth. If doctors just wanted food chewed til mush then that is what they'd say- but they don't. They are very specific about it being liquids, mushy, soft, etc.

Your stomach is seriously manipulated, sutured, and outright injured during surgery. The whole purpose of the post op diet is to allow the stomach time to heal. By not following your doctor's post op diet exactly, you risk ripping those stitches and/or causing a slip.

Everyone needs to follow their own surgeon's post op diet exactly- no exceptions or variations.

I so totally agree with Mis73. The more you follow your doctors instructions, the more successful you will be. It all about following the "rules" for the band and reaching out for support (not only do I get support here, I also go to support groups at the hospital where I had my surgery. For me, this had made a huge difference). If the pain continues or gets worse, please contact your doctor as soon as possible. It probably is your port though. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
