One year lapband anniversary

Recommended Posts

Well, as of 07-03-2012 it's been a year since my surgery. I'm down 62lbs, still got a lot to go though. I've fallen off the wagon a few times and haven't been as dedicated as I should have been. But all in all I'm glad I got the lap band. I couldn't have lost the weight I have without it!

Congratulations on your loss and anniversary. Just keep going and don't focus on the past miss-direction and look toward your future. Always keep your goals and desires on your front burner and the rest will work itself out. You have the tool. You just need to want it.

You're doing awesome though!!

I haven't made a final decision yet,, but that's one of my fears, I can be faithful to diet and exercise.........for about 4-5 months, then slowly slide back up on the scale. So has the band helped you over the times you feel like quitting ? How do you feel now, 62 lbs. lighter, and still heading towards you goal? You are doing awesome and keep the faith!

That is one of the main reasons why most of us get banded. Many failed diet attempts. Sure they are successful short term but long term they are not realistic. I don't want to hijack Lacey's thread so if you want to read my profile - My Story you will see where I am coming from. Feel free to PM any questions you may have.

I don't regret it for a minute. I know if I didn't get the lapband I wouldn't have lost the weight I did. But as with anything you do have to want it and put in the work. The thing with the lap band is that you can't eat like you used to even if you wanted too. When I've fallen off the wagon it was for a few weeks then I would get my act together. But it's a personal choice, and it should be well thought out! Good luck, feel free to message me any questions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
