Just got my surgery!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I love this app and it's given me a lot of tips. I just got my surgery on July 3rd and what I'm surprised the most about my recovery is that I'm extremely hungry and it's getting to a point where it hurts!! I'm eating plenty of Jello and Protein Shakes and broth but no matter what my stomach keeps aching!

Can anyone help me? Am I doing something wrong? I'm scared to eat too much because the band and I'm still healing. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Wow, they let you eat Protein Shakes after surgery. Lucky You. It was bland chicken broths, SF Jello, SF popsicles for 7-10 days after surgery for me.Only when two weeks were up I was able to introduce additonal liquid foods.

I got banded on July 2nd, so I'm right here with you! I have been battling feeling hungry too. I feel really tired constantly, and the pain is still pretty intense.

I started 2 Protein Shakes today in addition to broths, puréed Soups, and popsicles. I'm not finding the Protein shakes are helping a lot.

A nurse at the hospital where I got banded said she drank egg beaters and that helped. I'm not that desperate yet!

I go back to work Monday and am scared how I'm going to function! If you discover anything, let me know.

Can anyone who has been through this make suggestions for her and I?

I know this sounds lame: but.. drink your Water.. lots of it.. but, slowly. I haven't been banded, yet.. my date is next week. However, my husband had it almost 2 years ago, and he says that is what helped him.

Good luck! You can do it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
