Hello all

I was banded yesterday morning! I'm very excited to report however was also very surprised to learn that my surgeon decided to place the realize band inside of me. I instructed her to use her professional opinion based upon my health history, risks, etc. I left the office under the impression that she was leaning towards the smaller band, meaning the Lapband. So I didn't Even read the literature on the other bands as I have full confidence her and still do have confidence in her. I'm still on the hospital but it's a holiday so she's unavailable to consult with.

So if banders please me what you know about the realize band and how you feel about comparison between the two. Please keep it positive I've been very emotional since the anesthesia wore off.

Thanks in advance

Maggie

I know I have a Realize Band. It is a 10cc. How small were you hoping to get? I had heard before my surgery that the Realize Band only came in size 14cc, but that apparently was not true. My Doc uses either a 10cc or 15cc Realize Band depending on the anatomy. Maybe you did get a small one unless you wanted it smaller than 10cc, I don't know if they make one or not. A long time ago there was a 4cc band but I don't believe they use that anymore. Good luck

I have a realize band. My doctor made the decision... I do not second guess him.

I do believe the work the same way. I don't know what size or how many CC i have in my

band... I am afraid I would focus on that too much. I am just learning to work with my

band to make me healthier!

I am sure you will have great results!

My doctor uses the Lap Band, but does have a model of the Realize band in his office. I noticed one difference is the "inner tube" (for lack of better name) where the liquid is put is one solid piece on the Realize where it is 4 small compartments on the Lap Band. Also, I think the Realize is a bit wider on the outside ring.

I have a Realize band. I don't think that there is a huge difference between the two brands.

Lots of good info guys, I've done minimal research on the realize band and more on the lap but I do believe they are almost the same. :) Best wishes to you! :D

Hello all,

Sorry for the confusion. I was more looking fm for clarification in terms of the differences between the two bands. I have no idea what size bands she put in and then I will discuss that with her tomorrow.

My main questions for you are how you perceive the realize band as a comparison the lap band? If they are so similar why use one over the other? Those types Of questions. I hope that clarifies.

Maggie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
