Went for my first Doc appointment since my surgery. He said I was doing great and I will be ready for my first fill on the 17th which just so happens to be my Birthday so that will be a nice present to myself. He also said to be prepared to gain some weight between now and my fill date and to not worry about it and focus on finishing the healing process. He said the weight gain is totally normal and once I had the fill those pounds plus more would vanish quickly. So excited to get the fill.

I like that your doctor told you that. Many don't explain that after you come off liquids and before your first fill, gaining can be completely normal. This time really is for healing, so be kind to yourself!

That's what he said. Not to worry about te weight gain because once a fill is done they would melt away.

Ummm maybe not the first fill. It's possible if you're lucky. I took a fair few fills to get to the point where it was the band helping me lose instead of me doing all the work. But the good news is if you do the work, once the band does kick it it will help you lose faster and keep it off! :)

That's good to hear. I've gained a few pounds after I came off liquids and its a little deflating. My doc said the weight loss would slow down after liquids but he didn't say I would gain. I've even been pretty good! My first fill isn't until July 31st so I have a little while to go. I hope I can hold it together until then... Lol! Good luck!

Good for you sticking to your guns. I went to a pizza place with my family (I'm visiting them in TX, U live in FL), and they went for a 20 inch pizza! At that point I ordered a garden salad with dressing on the side. I had a sliver of pizza and munched on my salad which I loved because I have always loved salad. Anyway, the temptation was there but I really didn't want anymore pizza which is a good thing. When I got home, I rewarded myself with a sugar free Popsicle while everyone else had ice cream sandwiches. I think my head hunger is starting to subside and that's a hard thing to explain to a person who has not had WLS.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
