If you could give 1 piece of Pre-op advice, what would it be?

Do what the doctor says. Walk as much as you can after surgery to get rid of the gas, Don't over do it. Follow what the doctor says to drink after surgery and get ready for a life altering adventure. I'm 5 months out and 60 pounds lighter. It's worth it.

Research all you can about the band and ask all the questions you need to before getting surgery. Remember this is a journey and there will be ups and downs.

Dont expect to lose weight until your band is properly adjusted, which could take a couple months.

It seems the most common theme I see among newly banded people is that they expected to lose weight from the start and that they did not know enough about the post-op phase diet and tend to make mistakes.

Be patient; you are not going to wake up from surgery "magically" skinny . . . . even if that's what your family/friends think :(

Be patient with your band :)

Take your pain meds after surgery whether you hurt or not and try out your heating pad to see if it works.

If you're on a preop diet, make believe you are already banded. It helps when you feel like you want to eat. I used to tell myself "I can't eat that, it could get stuck". I know it sounds crazy, but it really kept me on track. Lol! Also, really start paying attention now to when you are no longer hungry, it's amazing how little you really need to eat to get there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
