My insurance require I quit smoking for 6months prior to my surgery , I quit newyears . I informed my PCP , I thought she took note , seeing how that was big of me , & big to my insurance . I had to do 3 consecutive months of attempted weight loose , well the notes of those apparently still said I was a pack a day smoker , my PCP didnt see this , and nor did my insurance corrdinator . It got denied twice due to my doctor notes continue to say I was a pack a day smoker , mind you befor the sencond denial , I got a note from my PCP saying that was her fault , I do not smoke anymore as of 01/13 . I dont know what to do and really feel as If i have lost hope .

I know years ago when I smoked, and quit, the life insurance folks had a mouth swab they tested for nicotine residual (I think). Maybe something like this would suffice? It's gotta be frustrating to have quit and not gotten "credit" for it. Hang in there....lots of folks, including me, get denied first time for various paperwork mistakes/exclusions. Never, ever give up!

That is the pits. Maybe type up something with lawyer & a Notary Public explaining what happened & send it to the insurance company. Good luck. . .do your best by eating 1/2 the quantity of food & walk, walk & walk in the interim and you will be starting down your road to good health. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
