My name is Holly and I turned 40 in May. I have been chubby my entire life and after yoyo dieting went from chubby to obese, from obese to morbidly obese and have reached a new low with super obese!

I have been a student with no insurance for years and now while I have insurance they will not cover it but, my husband of a year (life partner of 18) and I have decided we will finance it. I want to be healthy and have babies and my clock is ticking down!

I start my 3 week pre-op diet tomorrow! Not happy about the 3 weeks of starving but I know I am ready, in the past year I have graduated college, married my love of 18 years, finished my first year as a SpEd teacher and now wls ! Good Gravy!!! Lol here's to hoping my next big life event involves babies. Lol

The time will go faster than you think! I first met with my surgeon June 25, this year, walked out of the office with an appointment. I had gone through the 4 appointments they required nearly a year before, but gave myself nearly a year to get the rest of the weight off. When I decided it was time to follow through with surgery, so July 24th it was. My recovery has been good in part for the fact that I have lost quite a bit and have gotten physically fit over the past 2 7 1/2 years. So take the time to get your body in the best shape as you can and it will make the journey just a little easier. Also find out who in your circle of friends are going to be supportive and let them know. My church friends have been my biggest support they made the process easier. My family on the other hand were not very supportive. A good support system is very important. Best wishes and I will be praying for your success!

When do you start your pre op diet?

Mine is 3 weeks before so I have about a month untill I start it. I am preparing early. I know from doing Atkins carb/sugar withdrawl is no joke. My plan is to cut sugar and simple carbs out while I can eat unlimited non-starchy veggies and hopefully when I am going through food withdrawl I won't also be getting the carb/sugar headaches and grouchiness on top of it. Lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
