My Dr. never required me to count calories....it was focused on eating less, and eating healthy.....developing a new permanent lifestyle.....

He would often as me what I was eating, or as the case may be, what I was no longer eating either by choice or because of the bad....as far as portions, he also stressed the band dictating portion sizes as it now does being in the green....if anything, he would make a fist and say my Protein portion should never be larger than that....

It's just my opinion, but I read enough posts about everyone's scientific theories on calories....it makes my head hurt!!! And then the same people, sometimes in the same post, complain about not loosing weight. And they're advised to eat more!!!

In the beginning I used an app on my I-Phone to track all this....it drove me nuts and only fed into the Bandster hell I was going through....the most liberating thing that has ever happened to me after this surgery was when I stopped doing that and concentrated on eating right and being active.....which I will do for the rest of my life....

Just my own story and experience....you need to do whatever works for you and your Dr. advises....

My doc and his team emphasize healthy eating and Protein over calories. I track on MFP and pay more attention than they do. I work out 60 minutes a day and usually burn 700-900 calories Nd have found 1400 is a good number for me and works well if I am in the green zone.

My nutritionist had a hard time turning my attention from counting calories to having enough Protein at each meal. I brought a my food logs to my APRN at my last visit. My Protein intake was around 80 grams, while my calories were holding just 1000. He thought I could have more calories, but felt I was doing fine. But, it all depends on your metabolism, current weight and BMI, and the amount of physical activity in your life. Everyone has different nutritional requirements.

After quickly losing 55 pounds I am noticing it is coming off a lot harder, so I'll to start getting to the gym more regularly to burn off the excess intake.

800-900 calories. Of course that is what works for me. I cannot workout due to physical restrictions. This was also done through months of logging and finding my sweet spot. At 1100 cals I gained. I would not dare to go below my 800 cals but my body had adjusted to this new intake and it's what works best. I do ensure adequate Protein intake 60-80g daily

So what I'm getting is that you get 60-80 mg of Protein daily, eat "good" foods, 3 meals daily maybe 4 or 1 snack added with proper amounts (1/2 cup), and count calories last but journal.

It is different for everyone. Work with your NUT to see what is good for you.

I was only eating 500-600 calories my first year and burning 400-500. Now I eat 800-900 while maintaining.

No I would not say calories last. Otherwise you could eat chicken wings, Peanut Butter sandwiches and fried fish to get your Protein in as long as it's 1/2-1 cup. Calorie intake needs is directly correlated to how active you are or are not. You need to determine how active you are, log your foods/cals/protein and play with the numbers until you find your 'green' zone. Every person has their own zone so what is good for me will not work for you.

I did mention "good foods", so with that said would that change what some of your reply states? Look at my second post again with an eye toward the good food statement, is it close to what a good general statement would be?

Pretty simple, don't eat crap and if you do eat very little of it. I do some calorie counting because some of the things I think are low in calorie aren't. When in doubt eat Protein and opt for the smaller size if everything. I tell people you not hungry. You're bored and thirsty. Drink some Water and get busy.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
