Hi Everyone,

I'm SOOOOOO excited!!! I saw my primary MD today and he faxed the referral through for bariatric surgery. YAY! He was very understanding and supportive. I have an appointment with the dietician and the psychologist 4/2 and if they agree I am good candidate... the next step will be to meet with Dr. CHua!!!! I finally feel like I am taking real steps toward having surgery!!!!

My goal is to have surgery by the beginning of MAY... sooner if being a big pain in the butt helps. (o:

Darcy,

I'm so happy for you! Now the ball is rolling! The step after waiting for the approval from the psychologist and nutritionist is to see Dr. Chua...sounds like he's not to hard to get an appointment with right now...I called them the other day to reschedule my fill and they said that surgery is only booking a few weeks out...my best friend is in the process as well...

Good Luck!

Thanks Jennye and BB!

I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself! Now this seems real!

Jennye... that's really good to hear... I guess they do their reviews on Thursday so I won't hear from them for a week after my appointment. You can bet I will be on the phone to them the Friday AM after they meet to get the appointment with Dr. Chua set up. My husband leaves on the 14th of April and doesn't return until the 29th so I am hoping to get in to see Dr. Chua before he goes. It makes me nervous to drive in the big city and I like having him along.

I have to call Humana April 1st to make sure they will okay my consult appointments and to find out if they cover the banding. I know they cover the RNY and if that is the option I am left with... well... I will consider it.

I bet you are really excited for your friend and I wish you both the best!

Darcy

Hi Darcy that is great news I have Humana as well and they approved me last Nov when I had my surgery done so it shouldn't be a problem. One of the other gals I work with here at Humana had the band done by Chua as well and that was last Aug. 03

Not much longer and you'll get it.

Hey Darcy, that's great that you're off and running. It's SO important to have your PCP behind you and many people have trouble with that very first part. So you're ahead of the game already!!

Good luck!! :):D :D

Wow Angel... A direct line into Humana! I have heard that they are very good about covering WLS and it is wonderful to know that I might not have to consider the RNY... even though my sister is doing wonderful with it I just don't know if I could handle such a drastic change.

My weigh-in at my primary care MD was just on the line for qualifying... it was hovering between 247 and 248 which should put me at the 40 BMI mark. I don't have any co-morbidities that have been diagnosed mostly because I never complained about my joints and the fact that I wake up gasping all night long and drive my hubby out of the room with my snoring. It scares the heck out of him with the gasping... scares us both actually. I have the stress incont. too but have attributed all of these things to being overweight and felt I just had to deal with it for being so heavy.

I am so looking forward to a healthier more active lifestyle... life is just passing me by at age 36. Thanks to everyone that has sent words of encouragement!

Darcy

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
