They are available at regular grocery stores, but you want to get the ones with the highest Protein and lowest carbs.

If you go to a nutrition or Vitamin store they are very helpful!

I agree with debee. When you go into a health food or Vitamin store, make sure to tell them that you're a bariatric patient. They should be able to show you the right products. I went to the Vitamin Shoppe, and based on the criteria of the Protein I was looking for, she knew right off the bat that I was having bariatric surgery. If it's a good store, they probably know what to show you.

If you have costco where you live, they carry the ready made Premier Protein shakes......which I love. They are the only ones I continue to drink being 3.5 months post-op. The chocolate is best. The vanilla is horrible (in my opinion). They're 160 calories, with 30 grams of Protein.< /p>

I suggest that you call your doctor & ask the same question that you posted here. It makes absolutely no sense to me that you weren't advised of the daily requirements to maintain your health while going through this. And not JUST going through it, but for the rest of your life. Did they not provide education classes?

It's been a very long time for me since I did my pre-op liquid diet, but I know that I preferred whey Protein to the other stuff. I'm not a huge dairy fan, so drinking the milky shakes was really really nasty for me and I got creative. I like fruity, so I would start with fat free, sugar free flavored yogurt in a blender. I added the Protein Powder and frozen fruit. I kept experimenting until I hit something I liked. It may sound strange, but I discovered that if I added a packet of Crystal Light to it, it was actually good. Someone also told me about unflavored protein powder that I started adding to Soups to get more protein there.

I have used the Unjury Protein powder which I order on line, quick delivery, and taste is decent. They have several flavors. Protein Shakes are key to success!

I share this frustration. I too was not given any direction for after the mushy phase. Just introduce "regular foods slowly". No idea on calories etc. I'm a BIG guy and going from 5000 + calories a day to 1000 (based solely on the folks on this board) you'd think the weight would be falling off. I lost 28 during liquid - gained 9 back this week!!!

Any trainer I've ever worked with has said a male should never go below 1600-1800 a day. Doc's office closed all week for holiday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
