rmalikone 108 Posted June 30, 2013 I have surgery scheduled on July 8th and I'm not any diet! Is that normal? No nsaid's ten days out, and Clear Liquids after lunch the day before surgery and then nothing after midnight? I've read that some are on a liquid diet prior? SolracSpree 133 Posted June 30, 2013 The liquid diet is to shrink your liver for surgery. Some surgeons I have read dont require one but I think it would make it harder for them to operate. Its a god idea to maybe do one anyway so you can mentally prepare yourself and make sure it is something you can do. Plus I lost mega weight in those 10 days. Almost 2 pounds a day! Pittsburgher 261 Posted June 30, 2013 I am 11 days post op and my surgeon did not require a pre op.diet either, the day before surgery i ate light, yogurt, Soup, and nothing after midnight. It will not hurt to do one if you want to, i didnt and was still prepared after surgery for the post op diet and am doing great. But the pre op diet is to shrink the liver, during surgery they have to move around your liver
dee21 47 Posted June 30, 2013 I didn't have a Pre-op diet either. All went well for me. I'm 15 days post-op and am finally feeling better!! What I did instead of a Pre-op diet was try different Protein drinks, shakes, powders. I also stocked up on liquids for the post op phase. Every Dr. Is different as you will see on here. Good luck on your surgery :-)
