Horrible, horrible pain

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 26th of June. I've been doing really well today, left the house, went for a walk etc. I had a tickle in my throat just a little bit ago and had a coughing fit. WORST PAIN EVER. Felt like my port was being ripped from my body. I grabbed my little pillow, held it to my stomach but it didn't do much to help. Could I have hurt or dislodged my port!? will it always hurt when I cough from here on out? anyone have any tricks or tips to stop it from hurting so much when I cough? That was just a horrible, horrible experience.

I had a similar incident but mine was hiccups. Pain beyond belief eventually it subsided and had to pay very close attention to the pain after I took a dose of lortab. Keep an eye on it closely and call your doctor if it keeps up

I would say using a pillow would help with some of that, but if that didn't work i'd check with the doc and see if it'll continue to happen! It sounds terrible! XX Best Wishes

I would suggest to take your pain-killer (opiod type- like oxycodon), maybe you just came off the pain med but you still need it to continue. If that does not relieve it, you may want to call the doctor's office and ask.

Coughing is extremely painful. I have only coughed a little and held the pillow to my tummy, but it still hurt alot. Definitely call the dr just to make sure everything is ok. Keep taking pain meds and try to sip liquids slowly. I coughed after swallowing Water the wrong way! Hope all is ok.

I can't take my pain killer anymore, it gives me horrible dreams and makes me crazy. I've been taking liquid tylenol and that seems to help any pain that I have had. I have a follow up appointment with my doc Tuesday morning, but I think I'll call in on Monday just to check in with them. Thanks everyone!

Actually, with the horrible dreams I agree. I have odd and very vibrant dreams, but I still need that pain med to sleep. Just be super careful with coughing. Maybe you can take some metamucil to ease it...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
