When can i eat pureed foods?

Recommended Posts

You doctor sounds pretty liberal in his diet restrictions. Most want clear liquids for at least a week, and then 2-3 weeks of full liquids. If you are okay to start, I guess as the doctor's office said, start when you feel ready.

Every Dr plan is different so go with what your Dr advises- I allowed nothing the day of surgery, started a liquid diet day 2 including Protein Shakes 3x a day, on day 6 after my 1st appointment, I was allowed to start puree foods, yogurt, and soft foods (can tuna/can chicken/eggs/fish) and will be on that for 2 weeks before moving to soft foods, ground meats. It is about letting your body heal as you reintroduce the foods. As far as when you'll know, go by your body do you feel hungry/ need something more? When you do take it very slow and as soon as you feel any pressure in your chest- stop! Good luck

I only had to do clear liquids for 24 hrs, then full liquids, yogurt, instant potatoes, pudding, and mashed bananas. I am 3 days post op, have eaten very small amount of yogurt, potatoes, and Protein Shake. I have not had any problems with any of it. Next week I start the caned chicken, fish, caned fruit and veg. I really haven't wanted to eat anything but I get very weak and dizzy if I don't force myself to eat something.

Your body will let you know when you can transition. Me for example I was told 1 day of clear liquid and 2 weeks of full liquids. I am on day 7 post op now and my body will reject most full liquids I eat ( Tomato Soup, potato Soup, milky protein). I am learning slowly not to force things, even if my mind is saying "DO IT" because it is so not worth the pain in the end.

that was week 3 post op for me

if you attempt to proceed, go slow, chew/eat til mush and make it as smooth/runny as you can to be safe as your insides are still swollen and the stitches are healing and you wanna just not rush the healing..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
