...post-op

I feel pretty lucky. I've not experienced a great deal of discomfort. I was able to sleep on my port side (which, oddly enough, is my left side. I get that most are probably on the left, but as an old sailor, the whole port side/left thing...ok - it was a lame stretch) after a couple nights.

I'm still sort of hungry at times but less so. My biggest concern is not getting enough calories and stuff. Too long doing that will stop weight loss - at least that's what the Fitness Pal thing says (a handy little tool, by the way). My sugar is a little wacky, too.

I'll get it figured out. I see having to get hold of Protein supplements pretty soon. There are lots of choices. I suspect I'll land on one that suits me sooner or later.

Appreciate the thoughts over the week - here and at the blog. This'll be the last progress post, but I foresee tons of questions in the time coming.

Thank y'all

I was worried when I was practically starving and not seeing the scale move. Not that I anticipated dropping pounds in the first few days but it was odd that I lost 20pds before surgery and 3 days after with little to no food intake the scale hadnt moved at all. After I started drinking Protein regularly again the scale has begun to move and I think my body is out of the "starvation" stage. Get some good protein and you should be set!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
