Hi everyone, I've noticed lately my hair is coming out a lot more than usual. I have noticed before in these forums the mention of a Vitamin to use that works, but of course i didnt pay much attention because it didnt pertain to me at the time. So I was wondering if anyone knows what I can take for it?

My doctors recommended Biotin. I'm not sure it has helped...my hair did go through a time of excessive loss about 4-6 months post op. There is now a lot of new growth which will take a year or so to make a difference.

Hair loss is not uncommon post op...don't worry.

I agree that Biotin, Multivitamins, and Protein are your two biggest weapons against Hair loss. However, I honestly don't know much they can help. I think hair loss is your body's natural defense against losing weight. It's like, holy cow, where's all this calorie rich food I am used to?!? and starts stealing nutrients from the easiest place it can find that won't be harmful to you and that's your hair! Lol.

Unfortunately there is no preventative or quick fix. Your body will shed hair under stress, rapid weight loss and malnutrition. Ensure adequate Protein as the amino acids are the building blocks to luscious locks. However, supplements like Biotin and multivits will help support Hair growth but it's not like miracle grow, it merely helps replenish depleted building blocks. Usually when things stabilize you'll see regrowth.

A combination of weight loss and all the chemicals they put into your body during surgery can play havoc on your hair. I noticed I was losing considerable hair in the months after surgery too.

I started taking 5000mcg of Biotin daily about a year ago. I also use Fruitese "Fall Fight" Shampoo and conditioner, they have Biotin in them. It took months for my hair to fully recover but the Biotin definitely helped.

For me, it's really helped. I had two surgeries less than a month apart, all while still losing weight, and because I was already taking Biotin ahead of time I haven't had any Hair loss whatsoever. Normally anytime I have surgery I have hair loss but not this time.

I think if you are having a proper diet so it will help you to grow your hairs, because when you are internally fit so it's better for you to have a healthy lifestyle.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
