Question after question now I suspect!!

Ok! Now that my surgery is hopefully right around the corner I am coming up with a bunch of questions!

Before you were banded did you ever experience headaches if you let your self get pretty hungry. How were they after being banded? When you were taking in such a small amount of food did you have bad headaches?

More to come, I am sure!!

I had headaches for about the first 3-4 days on the pre-op liquid diet. After I got past those first few days though, I was fine.

I had one massive horrible headache on day 2 pre-op liquid diet. After that all is well. I will say that I've been eating every 3 hours or so - meal, snack, meal, snack, meal as recommended by my doc - so I haven't ever been hungry since banding. I went for my first fill and they told me not to eat anything for at least 4 hours by the time I got home (sans fill - another story there!) and ate I was up to about 6 1/2 hours without eating and I had a horrible headache. I ate and thought the headache would go away but it didn't. Finally I had some liquid tylenol and my headache went away.

None of my hunger headaches were anywhere near the pain I suffered as a morbidly obese young lady. I realize that's not what you're asking, but you'll get enough food and Tylenol to keep the headaches in check (unless they're Migraines, which is another story.)

Good luck on your new journey!

My answer is NO. Before being banded, if I didn't eat, I became naseous, got 'sick' headaches after a certain point of hunger. Today, I do NOT get those symptoms nearly as quickly. Now, if I go ALL day and don't drink or have Protein, I will eventually start feeling bad, but now I tell myself.. I need Water or I need protein. It's far different for me.

The first 2-3 days of the pre-op diet I had some headaches...but I knew they were from going thru carb withdrawal. Since then I've been fine. This is surprising for me because before, when I got hungry I would get really nauseous etc...and now even though I'm hardly eating anything (in fact I'm still only on "full" fluids right now and don't move into mushies until 13 May and solids on 27 May) I don't get "sick" or feel nauseous or any headaches. Thankfully!!! I think my body has now understood that I'm not trying to kill it....but quite the opposite so it isn't resisting!!

Good luck.

I too had headaches a lot before being banded. Alway had them if I didn't eat for several hours. I have not had a headache since being banded. I realized two days ago when my husband said he had a headache that I haven't had a headache or taken Tylenol in over 7 weeks. I think I can count this as a medication reduction on my score card.

I heard weak coffee or Decaf? Its the no caffine thing. Caffine makes you dehydrated. Maybe a "check with your Dr" kind of thing.

Anyone with verification?

Most peoples headaches go away after the first couple of days of the pre-op diet. Mine lastaed a whole week and was terrible, but then I have insulin issues so I figure my blood sugar just took longer to even out. The only headaches I have now are stress related not hunger related.

I did ask my Dr. Since I only have one cup of coffee a day, I can have leaded AND my Creamer. If you drink LOTS of coffee, maybe you should switch to DeCaf. Use non-fat milk. If you use creamer, be aware of calories. Be mindful of your choices.

I was allowed Decaf with only 1 oz. of skim milk. guess you should ask your dr.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
