N.A.S.H=Fatty Liver Disease

Recommended Posts

During my lapband surgery the doctor took a biopsy of my liver. The results fatty liver....several more test and several more doctors. The only thing that will save my life is diet and exercise so no matter how much I am disappointed in my weight lost, I believe that the decision I made by getting the lapband saved my life. Liver DR says if I follow all rules that my liver should clean it self of all fat.

A fatty liver can turn into cirrhosis. Once it reaches that stage, the scarring can only continue and never get better. I have a fatty liver and I was told to lose weight, exercise, and to avoid certain foods, especially alcohol. Keep with the diet and hopefully it will work out over time. I'm in the same boat, so you are not alone.

I did not have my liver tested. Is this something new they do? I started at 302 pounds and lost 69 pounds the lst year. Maybe it has to do with the results of all those other tests. Anyway there is always something new to learn. Wish you all much happiness in the years ahead! Keep smiling! :D

Great news that your surgery may end up saving your life. It is a reason for being a compliant patient.

Thanks for the words. I had never heard of this before this year. I am working on everything the doctor has told me. Keeping away from alcohol is the easiest....

I should explain a bit more... my PCP told me many years ago that I had an enlarged liver. When my surgeon did my WLS band surgery he had a great deal of difficulty placing my band due to my fatty liver... he had told me that he might do a liver biopsy on pre surgery consultation, and he ended up doing so. Post surgery he referred me to a college who does liver transplants at the group he practices with. I had him forward my biopsy results to my PCP... and I will discuss it with him before going further. Whatever... what it is is what it is. The only thing I can do is to eat wisely and to avoid certain foods. I don't a transplant specialist to tell me what I need to do.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
