Deacon Blues 14 Posted June 27, 2013 It is my intent to ask my surgeon and my primary about this, but I'm curious as to the rank and file's opinion. My surgeon told me to stop my insulin the night before surgery. My sugar numbers were bubbling under 100 pre-op. I was told to expect my sugar to spike wildly 12-18 hours post-op. That, indeed happened with numbers in the 210s (making it necessary for two insulin injections during my overnight stay in the hospital). This past weekend through two days ago, my sugar ranged from the 110s to the 130s. The past two days, I've pushed through to the mid-150s. I've taken in less than 1200 calories per day (less than 900 yesterday) on a largely liquid diet (Glucerna shakes, sugar free Jello, yogurt, and the like). I feel, generally, lousy - like my sugar is on the low end of out of whack - but the numbers don't bear that out. I'd appreciate a little enlightenment. Thanks. Kime-lou 648 Posted June 27, 2013 You are still very early on. Likely your feelings are more surgery that sugar. While I do not have diabeties, I do have issues with my surgar droping, it just never goes up out of range. The days following surgery as the swelling decreased I felt that Sh*&. I wasn't getting much in and feeling low. Once I got back on mushies I started to feel better and it just got better from there. Your body is adjusting not only to surgery, but to the far less food, it's trying to heal, so it's using up some energy for that, Give it a few more days before worrying to much. Best thing you can do is check your levels make sure they are ok, stay hydrated (very Important), walk as much as you can, and rest! Your body has to have time to heal and adjust.
