Nurse_B 270 Posted June 27, 2013 Hello!! I have my first appointment with my surgeon next Wednesday. Does anyone have any advice on questions I should ask, or things that you wish you knew before the procedure?? I want to make sure I show up ready to get all the information I need! debee 47 Posted June 27, 2013 I did so much research before my visit I didn't really have many questions. You being in the medical feild you will also understand easily what the procedures includes. I followed directions and kept a positive attitude. I went in knowing I would be successful and only 5 weeks post op I am still on my way...... Best luck to you on your journey! I have never asked what size band I have or how many CC of Fluid I have..... I am afraid I would fixate on the numbers.... Just me!!!!
GoingforGoal 1,734 Posted June 27, 2013 Before surgery, ask your dr if he will put you on a preop diet so you can prepare and purchase appropriate shakes etc to your liking. Ask your dr if there's anything day of surgery (or during surgery) that would prevent the surgery from taking place. Ask what kind of pain management they put you on to get a better idea of what to expect. As for postop, ask your doctor if they have set days to do fills and how they address urgent unfills.Get an idea of how aggressive or conservative they are with their fill protocols so you can get an idea of how soon or later you will achieve 'green'. Ask them for their guidelines on how they determine when/if a fill is warranted. A lot more questions can be had for the nutritionist but just ask us when you get to that point. Nurse_B 270 Posted June 27, 2013 Thank you, I'm jotting all this down in a notebook so I can refer to it at the appointment! I'm sure there is so much I'm not even aware of asking yet!
catfish87 3,471 Posted June 27, 2013 From my experience, the most important thing would be to ask your surgeon if he/she does fills using fluoroscopy? Without it, they are guessing if everything is ok, restriction levels, etc. Hopefully, they will have the machine in the office.
