Recommended Posts

I'm 16 days post op ... I don't know how many calories to get in to keep my weight loss steady? I do fitness pal and I track and it seems like I'm getting in about 500... Is that normal

I did not track calories that early on. the first month to six weeks should concentrate on healing not so much worrying about weight loss... if you do what they told you as far as gradually going from liquid to creamy to mushy than regular foods you will lose.. you shouldn't have much of an appetite.. concentrating on Protein is the best way to get enough nutrients.. drinking is super important so you don't get dehydrated. Good Luck.. take it easy and be patient...

I understand that most folks don't keep track of calories, but as I eat my Protein and veggies I try to keep it from 700 to 1000 calories a day. Not all protein and veggies are created equal and I think it helps me to know where I stand.

500 seems low... and at that level I would wonder what your Protein intake is? I'd suggest calling the doctor's office for guidance.

My nutritionist made me log my Fluid intake and Protein intake. No calorie counting b/c she wanted me to focus on these only. I was adding whey protein to my boost or Atkins shakes and I even added sugar free popsicles to my fluid intake. Are you having at least one snack a day? I know it is hard to get the shakes down but even three shakes w/o whey are about 600 calories.

I was 600 for about 4 weeks post op. I am now averaging about 800 per day. Talk to your nutritionist. Only they will know what will work for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
