united healthcare

I have United Healthcare too through my job. My hubby is unemployed and needs Lab Band or Gastric desperately and he was denied..I HATE UNITED HEALTHCARE. Has anybody ever gotten it through a "medical tourism" service?? I just don't know where else to turn

Did they provide a reason for denial?

I have Oxford Insurance, which seems to be the low rent division of United Healthcare. I had to follow a six month regimen of meeting a nutritionist once a month. Plus I had to get approvals from a psychologist, a pulmonologist, a cardiologist and a gastroenterologist.

Dr. Strom and his team were familiar with all the requirements of dealing with my insurance, had a list of doctors that they knew took my insurance, and stepped me through everything. Once we got all the paperwork together about a month before my surgery date, they submitted everything and got approval the first time within a week.

It was submitted on Monday and approved by Wednesday. I Had my surgery 2 weeks later!

The whole process took 6 months because of the 6 months nutritional counseling. If you need to do that.. UTILiZE IT! I was so mentally prepared once i got banded and I believe that is the reason for my fast success!

Hi, I also need 6 months of weight loss counselling (I'm 3.5 months into that) which I see my family doctor for. My ins allows a family dr to do this since I am "out of area." He seems to think if I don't lose 10-20 lbs in the 6 months that the ins will deny me because it will appear as if I am not dedicated to change. Was this your experience also? (FYI my dr knows nothing about my odd-ball ins but thinks they all work that way.) DId your ins expect you to lose weight first?

I am required to do 6 months of weight loss counseling also, although my initial doctor visit was not until 7/23, my six months will not end until January 2014. I also have to complete pre-counseling; psych, nutritionists, pcp visits, support group neetings, etc. I am okay waiting and I only have to lose 8 pounds in the 6 months. I must admit, I am looking forward to attending a support group meeting for the first time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
