Did any of you NOT get a real gain in energy after being banded?

Recommended Posts

My biggest problem is lethargy and I am sincerely hoping that it will be greatly helped by losing weight. One thing I am concerned about it that even when I do weight watchers I am still, if not more so, tired feeling. I have this constant super tiredness and I feel that is half my weight problem. I feel tired so I eat to overcome it and it is a vicious circle...

Do almost all of you feel better in general after the surgery? Did any of you have this tiredness that was 'cured' by the band?

I feel like my whole life is out of control ~ overeating, overspending, messy house, etc... I truly want to be organized and have a really clean house and stuff, but I can never seem to find the energy. By the time I have my 3 year old and 11 month old in for a nap, cleaning up is the last thing I want to do... but I know that is how other mom's keep it clean... I just want to watch TV and eat...

Can this surgery help me with that?????

maybe you can ask your Dr. about a B12 shot?

I know after banding (I) didnt get more energy from being banded, however once I MADE myself get up and get moving. I did get more energy and desire to move more!

I dont like exersize I hate it infact, if its not fun I dont wanna do it! So the thought of it was a put off...Id rather watch tv...But I love to dance so I started w/ that "Dance parties" with the kids the we started riding our bikes to school and after school. then I started taking the kids skating and skate in the neighborhood. I also work out to my tv on demand in the living room belly dance cardio etc. The trick is finding something exersize that you dont consider to be exersize.

What the band did do for me other than Portion Control, is give me my life back after -70 pounds I can move w/out pain, I do get out and move now, I wear work out clothes even.

I love my band and if I had to do again I would for sure!

Are you sure you don't have something else going on? After my second child weaned, the unrelenting tiredness I had been chalking up to nursing didn't go away. So I went to the doctor and was lo and behold diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. Treatment of that condition helped immensely, even a year before being banded. Having two small children is exhausting (believe me, I KNOW!), but it sounds like you may have something else happening, too.

As for energy post-banding, Losing weight certainly helped my stamina--I can keep going long after I would have wanted to quit doing (whatever it might be) before. But I can't say I got any huge ADDITION in energy level, except occasional short-term boosts due to good spirits. As I say, far more relevant to relieving my exhaustion was getting my underactive thyroid treated.

It also sounds like you're being very hard on yourself with regard to your house. Hell, girl, with a 3 y.o. and a baby you'd have to be doing NOTHING ELSE EVER besides cleaning for your house to always look good! You have way more important things on your plate. The house can wait. :biggrin1:

I agree that something else may be going on. I have auto immune problems and no energy. I'm not taking care of a 3 year old and a 11 month old either. I take B12 shots every week (most just get them monthly) and a thyroid pill. Have your primary check you out. Of course, depression also makes one tired. Rule out causes first. I'm hoping the band will help me with my energy levels. It can't hurt to get some of this weight off that's for sure.

Thanks!

I did have my thyroid and all my Vitamin levels checked in preparation to this surgery. No problems there. I do suspect one cause could be my hormones. I was diagonsed with poly cystic ovarian syndrome years ago (PCOS). I can feel a difference in energy depending where I am in my cycle...

Other than that they say there is no problems with things like my thyroid and stuff...

I dont' know about depression... I think I would be more emotional than I am if I was... or would know I was... KWIM?

I have alot more energy now than I did when I was at my highest weight, and my house is cleaner too, lol. I agree with what other folks have said regarding maybe something else being wrong, but at the same time, I know the feeling of "I just don't want to clean my house".

I can move better and feel a bit better. However, I haven't gained the energy that I was hoping.

I've had my blood work done and everything was completely normal..I try to eat properly and log everything on fitday.com.

I wish it had increased my energy level.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
