How long did it take to start losing weight - not counting the liver diet?

Recommended Posts

Ok - so we all lost the obvious weight with the liver diet - but I have had my first fill and still no more loss...does everyone stall like this? Does it just take time to kick into gear?? Or is everyone else just happily losing weight??

You have to remember, fills don't make you lose weight. They are to put adequate Fluid in your band to control your hunger. When your hunger is controlled then it's much easier to eat less and thus lose weight.

I actually have lost consistently since I was banded 17 months ago, including right after surgery. I think the reason I've always lost is because I also started tracking my calories and measuring my portions since the day I got home from the hospital. For me, both are crucial to be sure I'm not accidentally eating too much.

Best wishes.

I'm 12 days post op- and the last 2 days I have gained a pound back:( I have been tracking calories and staying below my goal of 1000. It scares me because the last thing I want to do is put weight back on!

What are your doctor's instructions for you? Did he give you the caloric intake amount? I'm just curious because my nutritionist didn't really deal with calories--instead focused on Protein amount. When I went through my nutrition class, it was 2-4 oz lean Proteins and 1/4 to 1/2 c veggies. (Those veggies did not include anything starchy like potatoes, peas, corn...). I was also told to watch the type of carbs and make sure carb intake was not greater than protein intake. You are only 12 days out, so are you still on soft foods with Protein Shakes? ?

Yes I'm still on soft foods/protein shakes. My doc said to strive to get the Protein in but also watch calorie intake. Gonna keep watching calories and hope the scale will begin to move again!

I've lost steadily since being banded in December. But like Mis I have tracked everything I've eaten each and every day. The scale does jump around some days but I know that's just Water retention and that over a whole month I will lose.

Follow your doctor's guidelines and see a NUT if necessary. The pounds will come off.

It took me about 2-1/2 months after surgery before things began to turn in the other direction....I even gained weight between 4-8 weeks from surgery.

Fortunately I have a surgeon with common sense, and did not get as upset as I was getting knowing at that point it was all about getting the band that was recently implanted, adjusted and working efficiently....the 2nd phase.

All in all the whole process, of band adjustment, and myself adjusting to work with the band, (learning new habits, breaking the old) took 6 months....after that it has all been an effortless breeze...and still is till this day.

A new life and lifestyle.

I've been keeping track of everything consumed since before the surgery--calories, Protein, carbs, fat, cholesterol--learned that in my nutrition class. The reason I was asking about what your doctor or nutritionist advised is because I seem to see different standards here often times. I was a week into my recovery and called my doctor's office with the a question about calories. That's when they said since I was on Protein Shakes and soft food, to watch protein more at that time. I think you'll see some loss soon. It really didn't take that long for me to start losing--I was just very strict with following the schedule of when to add foods and documenting everything. You can do it!!

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. I get my first full July 10. I try to get in high Protein items first as I know they will keep me full longer. If nothing else I am establishing habits durning this time. I am logging everything that goes in my mouth and being a lot more conscious about what goes in it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
